Today’s blog post is brought to you by the wild world of guitar customization. We all know that guitars can be personalized to fit your style and needs, but there are some customizations that make you question the very sanity of their creators.

Case in point: the GMP Guitars Custom Deluxe turned 7-string oddity!

Now, the GMP Guitars Custom Deluxe is a fine piece of craftsmanship, starting at a jaw-dropping $3350. It’s the kind of guitar that makes you feel like a shred master just by looking at it. But you know what this guitar needs? More strings! Because why settle for the standard six strings when you can have seven, right?

But hold on, we’re not talking about a proper, thought-out 7-string conversion. Oh no, that would be too logical. Instead, someone decided to go full DIY mode and add a tuning peg right in the middle of the headstock. Yes, you read that correctly. Right in the middle!

Because why not have a tuning peg sticking out like a sore thumb? It’s like they thought, “You know what? Drill that mofo, it needs a bold design choice!”

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the audacity of this customization. They took a $3350 guitar, a quite elegant and well crafted instrument, and said, “Let’s drill a hole in it. That’ll make it better!”

I mean, I get it. We all want to stand out and have our own signature style. But drilling a hole in a perfectly good headstock seems a bit strange, don’t you think? It’s like getting a new haircut, and deciding that the best look for you is a big, gaping hole in the middle of your forehead.

And let’s not forget about the practicality of this customization. Tuning pegs are usually placed at the sides of the headstock for a reason – so you can easily access and adjust them. But I guess that having a tuning peg smack dab in the middle, is worth it… Just to confuse and amuse anyone who lays eyes on it?

Oh! And to add perplexity to the confusion, have you noticed that the seventh string is not even strung in the pictures?

So, to the brilliant mind behind this DIY 7-string abomination, we salute you. Your fearless creativity has given birth to a guitar that is proof that while personalization is great, not every idea is a stroke of genius.

Sometimes, the line between brilliance and absurdity is thinner than a high E string.
