Strats are so overrated ! I guess you can be a fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan but still prefer to play a Telecaster. After all, even SRV played Telecaster from time to time !

SRV-Telecaster

Stevie Ray Vaughan was known for his iconic Fender sunburst Stratocaster guitar that he referred to as “Number One”. In fact, Number One was a Frankenstein guitar that “was rebuilt more times than a custom Chevy” according to SRV himself.

In 1973, SRV received Number One as a gift from Ray Hennig, owner of the Heart of Texas music shop in Austin, Texas. He played this guitar on every tour and on all five of his studio albums, as well as on the Vaughan Brothers’ album “Family Style.”

The guitar originally had a white pickguard, but Vaughan had it replaced with a brown one that later had his initials “SRV” printed on it. It also featured a right-handed tremolo bar, which Vaughan had swapped for a gold-plated left-handed one.

Number One remained Vaughan’s primary guitar until his death in 1990.
